John M. Fiore

Rotterdam – John M. Fiore, 108, passed away Sunday December 28, 2025 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center.

John was born in Schenectady, NY on February 2, 1917 and was the son of Vito and Maria Fiore.

A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in 1934, he was the first freshman in the class when it opened in 1931.

After graduating he worked for GE as a production specialist with over 45 years of service and was a recipient of several suggestion awards which saved the company thousands of dollars.

John served his country in WWII from 1942-1946 with an honorary discharge as a corporal.

He took great pride in his family. His parents came from Italy penniless and raised 7 children, all of whom lived into their 90s and were outstanding citizens for this country.

His hobbies were gardening and will always be remembered for his generous nature of supplying all his friends and family with the produce. He was an active bowler, golfer and in later years took up duplicate bridge playing 3 times a week. John was an avid fan of the NY Yankees & NY Knicks basketball team and also enjoyed watching the UConn ladies basketball games.

One of his greatest joys was rooting for Union College, Notre Dame and the University of Connecticut as family members graduated from those colleges.

John took an active part in his son Nicholas’ activities which included Carmen Little League, Babe Ruth, CYO basketball and Pop Warner football. He later enjoyed watching his grandson Nicholas, Jr. play recreational basketball. John was a player agent for Carmen Little league and later the Commissioner of Rotterdam Babe Ruth.

In 1953 John married Mary Gerardi who passed away in 1972 after a long illness.

He is survived by his son Nicholas Fiore, Sr. and his grandson Nicholas Fiore, Jr.

John is also survived by nieces Marianne Hogle, Eileen (Scott) Cornell, Lois (Frank) Koper and nephews Andrew Napolitane, Michael Fiore, Jr. and Paul Fiore along with many great nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings, sisters Anna Donato, Angeline Pettita and Rose Napolitane and his brothers Michael E. Fiore and Anthony Fiore.

A calling hour will be held Friday January 2nd from 8:30-9:30 am at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A 10 am Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Gabriel’s Church 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY 12303.

Burial, with military honors, will take place at St. Joseph’s cemetery.
