John C Ettore

April 12, 1948 — March 30, 2015

Rotterdam - John C. Ettore, 67, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015 surrounded by his loving family after fighting a long courageous battle with cancer. John was born on April 12, 1948, the son of the late Frank and Eleanor Gardiner Ettore. He was a graduate of Schalmont High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Vietnam. He later was a graduate of St. Clare's Hospital School of Radiological Technology. John was employed in medical imaging at the former St. Clare's Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital (Amsterdam, NY), and most recently Ellis Hospital until his retirement in 2012. He greatly enjoyed all sports but most especially his Yankees, the (NY) Giants and his annual outings to Saratoga Race Course. John enjoyed reading, photography, discussing the politics of the day, and all animals. He was a communicant at St. Anthony's Church. He is survived by his wife Margaret (Maggie) and his son Matthew of Boston, MA, his uncle John J. Ettore, his faithful companion, Lily, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph Ettore, step mother Jean Ettore, his sister Sandra Gamache, and his beloved Rudy. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8pm Monday April 6, 2015 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam, New York 12306. Funeral services will begin 9:15 am Tuesday April 7, 2015 at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist, 812 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, NY. John's family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Howard Schlossberg for his professional, compassionate care for John, and the entire NYOH staff in Rexford, NY, especially his chemo nurses, Diane, Mary, Jane, Kristen, Kate, Grace, Anne Marie, Gladys, Katielyn and Barb along with the hematology staff. We would also like to thank Hospice nurse Joann Villa for her compassion. Special thanks to Fr. Richard Carlino, Sr. Maria Rosa Querini, and Joe Marcello for their thoughtfulness and support.
