SCHENECTADY- John “Jack” Costello passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in Long Island NY, he is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Costello. Surviving relatives include: his brother Joseph Costello (wife Eleanor); Robin Hepburn (life partner); daughters Michele McLasky, Jill Costello (Steve Vollor); sons Michael Costello (wife Cheryl), Johnny Costello (wife Jean Marie); grandsons Nicholas, Christopher, and Ryan McLasky, Benjamin and Matthew Costello; and granddaughters Alexandra Toscano and Lauren DeMarco. He attended Duanesburg High School and lived in Esperance before settling in Rotterdam NY. John worked for Sears Auto Center, owned AJC Sporting Goods (A to be first in the phone book!), and Orange Motors in Albany as a Service Advisor. John had a passion for many things: vintage cars--he restored a ‘57 Chevy, had a yellow Dodge Dart Swinger, and later had a stable of 5.0 Mustangs. The New York Jets were his favorite team. He could recite a play-by-play of every game back to the Joe Namath years. “Playing the numbers” was part of his daily routine. He enjoyed going to the gym and running along the Mohawk River. He was a great cook of Italian food and never declined a good pizza with anchovies. Harvesting the vegetables from his jungle-like garden, taking pictures and cooking them in creative ways gave him great joy. Learning how to shoot pool was non-negotiable growing up in the Costello household. It became a shared skill his children grew to appreciate over the years. He loved to hike, run, and ski and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in the pool. Upon entering his home, a labrador retriever would be the first one to greet you and announce your presence. Those who knew him would say that John would help anyone in need. He was able to find a life partner in Robin, who shared the same passions. She has a big caregiving heart and brought the joy of many animals into his life. Most importantly, she stood by his side till the end. For that, we are eternally grateful. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Wednesday June 26, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave. Rotterdam and may also visit with Jack's family prior to his service at the funeral home from 4-5:30 pm.
