Guilderland - John E. Coogan died on September 25, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness with his devoted wife Florence at his side. John was born in Albany, NY on March 9, 1927. He was the son of the late James J. Coogan and Agnes M. Coogan of Rensselaer, NY. John was predeceased by his siblings Mary Jane Cooke, Edythe H. Alcombright, James J. Coogan, Shirley A. Kowalski and William F. Coogan. John is survived by his wife Florence and daughter Kelley (Kenneth) Pratt and grandchildren, Olivia and Jacob Pratt, as well as several nieces and nephews. John was a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer, NY and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He was a veteran of the Korean War. John retired from the Division of New York State Police and Niagara Mohawk. He was a longtime communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church and a member of the Elks. John was a lifelong Red Sox fan and thoroughly enjoyed history. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Monday from 9 -11 am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland, followed by an 11:30 am Mass of Christian Burial. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer.
