John J. Chiachiaretta, Jr., of Schenectady, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on March 2, 2026, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Schenectady, he was the beloved son of the late John J. Chiachiaretta, Sr. and Libra Chiachiaretta (DeMaina). John was a lifelong member of the community he loved and served so proudly.
John graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and went on to complete the General Electric Apprentice Program. He built a remarkable 39-year career at General Electric, working as a draftsman and earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Even in retirement, John remained deeply involved, serving as President of the GE Apprentice Alumni Association and as President of the GE Retirees Association. In those roles, he helped support meaningful causes and community efforts, including Toys for Tots and events at Proctors Theatre.
John had a deep love for life and for people. An avid bowler and softball player, he also gave his time to causes such as the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake. He had an appreciation for classic cars and always looked forward to the annual car show in Scotia. He also enjoyed traveling, and one of his favorite pastimes was playing bocce ball and cornhole with his grandsons. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, especially his cherished grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Cindy Chiachiaretta (Casso); his son, John J. (Shannon) Chiachiaretta III; his daughter, Lisa (Sean) Hume; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Kyle, Connor, and Camille. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra (Joseph) Mackey; his nieces, Brenda (Peter) Muller and Linda Mackey; and many more nieces, nephews, and extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Community Hospice nurses for their compassionate care and support in his final days. They would also like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Brenda and Peter Muller for their loving support during this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family to celebrate John’s life. Calling Hours will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 9-10:30 AM, at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Schenectady, NY.
