Rotterdam – John J. Casso, 90, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center. Born in Schenectady, John was the son of the late Vito and Annunziata (Pietro) Casso. John honorably served his country as Seaman First Class in the United States Navy, working on the USS Honolulu and USS South Dakota. In his early years he worked for NY Central Railroad,later working for theSI Group for 36 years until his retirement. John was a member of the Rotterdam Elks. He enjoyed bowling and golfing and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also enjoyed watching his kids’ and grandkids’ sports games. John is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Jane (Doulin) Casso, as well as his siblings, Anthony, Carmen, Charles, Joseph, Michael, Gerald, Christine, Kate, Mary, Mildred and Phyllis. John leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, John (Nancy) Casso of Rotterdam, Ron (Gail) Casso of Mayfield, Gary (Nancy) Casso of Rotterdam and Linda Christie (James Wilkins) of Rochester, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters, Dorothy Bardascini of Amsterdam, NY and Rose Lombardi of Florida; along with a host of nieces and nephews. A visitation will take place on Thursday at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam from 11:30am-1:30pm with funeral services beginning immediately following at 1:30pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be at St. Cyril’s Cemetery, Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
