John (Jack the Hat) Btag, RENSSEALER 69, formerly of Schenectady, passed away on April 7, 2017 at Ellis Hospital. Jack was born in Albany NY, he was an entrepreneur and jack of all trades. He was rarely seen without his hat and he was known as “Jack the Hat”. His love of life and sense of humor were contagious. He enjoyed fishing, his Cadillac, fast cars and lived for the simple things in life, such as coming home from a long day of work to play his daily lotto numbers. For him, there was nothing like a hot cup of coffee and talking with Anne while she made dinner. His favorite fishing spots were Mariaville Lake and the Mohawk, where he would take his grandchildren any chance he got. He lived a great life, full of love and respect and will be missed dearly. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John Btag and Dorothy Btag; his sister Clara Filkins; his brother William A. King III; and his dear companion Anne Cotrofeld. Jack was blessed to have the love and support of Anne and her family for the last thirty years of his life. He is survived by his daughter Susan Sherr and his brother Robert King. Jack was grandpa to Natalie Ferrara and Garrett Daniels. A special thank you to Natalie for being his angel. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road. A memorial Mass will immediately follow at 11:30am.
