John Bellai, Sr, 85, passed away on Monday July 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in Schenectady on February 4, 1933 to the late Pietro and Anna Bellai. John graduated from Vocational High School and later attended Hudson Valley Community College and graduated from Modern Welding School. During the Korean War, John Spent two years in the Air National Guard and two years in the Army stationed in Germany. After serving his country, John managed five service stations for Tri City Service and owned and operated Mayfair Texaco for a number of years. Following his endeavors as a small businessman, John began his 27 year career at General Electric in his hometown of Schenectady. One of John’s proudest moments was when he and his eldest son, John Bellai, Jr, founded John’s Auto Service in Rotterdam in 1981. John never lost his passion for learning. He loved computing and prided himself on being proficient in the technologies of today. John cherished every minute with his family, but what brought him the greatest joy was spending time with the love of his life, Joan. In addition to his parents, John was also predeceased by his daughter, Diane Bellai DeMeo, and his son Anthony Bellai, Sr. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 64 years, Joan Bellai, his two daughters, Ann Marie (Joe) Badalucco and Susan (Chuck) Boni, his son John (Susan) Bellai, Jr, son in law John (Janice) DeMeo, daughter in law Mariann Bellai and his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10:30 am to 12 noon at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. with funeral services beginning at the funeral home at 12 noon. Burial, with military honors, will be at St. Anthonys Cemetery in Glenville.
