John Baim

John P. Baim, 82, of Rotterdam passed away in the comfort of his home after a long illness.
John grew up in Rotterdam Junction, NY and was the son of the late John and Enda Baim.
After graduating from High School, he joined the Army, serving at Fort Hood in Texas and Fort Wainwright in Alaska. He earned an Associates Degree of Applied Science in Paralegal studies at Schenectady County Community College.
John worked as a machinist in the Turbine Engine Department at General Electric in Schenectady for several years and later as a manager for Sealed Air in Scotia before retiring.
John was a volunteer firefighter at Schonowe Fire Company and also a member of the National Disaster Recovery Organization.
John was a “car guy” and loved to spend time restoring his 1932 Ford Coupe and his 1981 Corvette. He enjoyed skiing and was a member of the National Ski Patrol at Maple Ski Ridge as well as a First Aid instructor. He would spend time at the gym working out and weightlifting to prepare for competing in body-building competitions. John was a member of the Elk’s Club in Rotterdam. He enjoyed coaching soccer, golfing, camping, and being outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was pre-deceased by his brother Vincent Baim.
John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna (Clark) Baim, his children: Christine (Rippy) Brown of Rotterdam, Matthew Baim of Sloansville, Nichole (Brian) Leach of Rotterdam Junction, Travis Baim of Amsterdam, and Terry Hurd of Saratoga, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Stephen (Barb) Baim of Indiana, and his sister, Kathy (John) Simonds of Pattersonville, several nieces and nephews and his dog companion, Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 310 South Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY 12208 or the APF at 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302.
A celebration of Life will be held on July 18, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 pm at Demarco-Stone Funeral home located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam, NY 12306.
