Jensen Beach, FL - It is with deep sadness we announce John Albert Attanasio, 79, of Jensen Beach, FL, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, surrounded by loving family.
John was born on June 26,1944 in Schenectady, son of the late John “Shammy” (Helen) Attanasio and beloved mother, Mary Pasquariella. He was married to his love Judith (Judy) Attanasio, in 1993 and they made a beautiful life together. John was employed by UPS for 31 years, a member of the Local #294 Teamsters, a lifelong member of Rotterdam Elks #2157, and proudly served as a volunteer firefighter and past Commissioner at the South Schenectady Fire Department District #6 where he was still a member after 61years. John was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, cousin, uncle, and friend. Family, as well as friends who became family, were very important to John and he loved everyone unconditionally.
Before becoming ill, John enjoyed his times on the golf course with his buddies, nights at the fire house with the guys, and catching up with his longtime UPS friends at yearly clambakes and gatherings. It brought him pure joy spending time with family and friends. John enjoyed his summers at Sacandaga Lake, NY and winters in Jensen Beach, FL, alongside his wife.
John is survived by his children; Dawn (Dave) Fusco and John A. Attanasio, Jr., his stepchildren; Jessica (George) Carhart and Jodie Falconio, his grandchildren; Daniel Colabelli, Justin Attanasio, Zachary Kilmer, Danielle Attanasio, Andrew Carhart, Madison Crotty, Jacob Carhart, Emily Carhart, Luke Ashley, Sophia Convery and Arabella Colabelli, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother Tony Attanasio, sister Carmella Miller, and stepdaughter Laurie Curthoys.
Calling hours are Monday, July 10, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, Schenectady, NY 12306. Friends and family are invited for a viewing Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Schenectady, NY. Burial to follow at St. Cyril Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
