ROTTERDAM – Joanne R. (Borysewicz) Thomson, 70, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 20, 2025, with her family by her side after a long illness. Born in Schenectady on July 18, 1954, Joanne was the daughter of the late Stanley and Rose Borysewicz and wife of the late Milton (Mickey) Thomson. Joanne grew up in Schenectady, graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1972 and lived in Rotterdam her whole adult life. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace and enjoyed attending online Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville. She had a 30+ year career with the state, working for the Office of Technology and Department of Labor before retiring in 2005. After retirement she watched her grandchildren during the work week until they started kindergarten, which resulted in many trips to lunch and ice cream parlors. Joanne loved socializing and going out with her girlfriends to the casino, out for a good meal or taking weekend trips and looked forward to going to Maine each summer with her grandkids. Joanne loved her friends, but her true passion in life was her family. She loved nothing more than having her kids and grandkids around the table for a good Italian meal. She cherished holidays, parties and summer cookouts when her family was together. Joanne had a huge heart and made an impression on anyone she met throughout her life.
Joanne is survived by her sisters Helene Stachewicz and Barbara Jewett, her brother-in-law Thomas Arthur, her children Scott (Laurie) Thomson, Jaclyn Ross, James (Terri) Thomson, Colleen Thomson-Krebs, and John Thomson, her cherished grandchildren Sierra, Ryan, Addison, Landon, Mckenna, Emersyn, Asa, and Frankie who adored their Grandma JoJo, and several nieces, nephews, family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne was predeceased by her sister Patricia Arthur and her brothers in law Thomas Jewett and Benny Stachewicz.
Family members and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam on Thursday April 24th at 11AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Community Hospice or Our Lady Queen of Peace church in Joanne’s memory. Arrangements by DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, Rotterdam. Condolences can be posted at demarcostonefuneralhome.com.
