Joanne "Micki" Agresta

November 22, 1958 — December 23, 2021

Hollywood, FL - Celebrate the life, cherish the memories of Joanne “Micki” Agresta, November 22, 1958 – December 23, 2021. Joanne was the loving daughter of Frank (deceased) and Arlene Agresta, caring sister of Rosemarie (James) Trigger, fun aunt to the nephew and niece she adored, Adam Trigger and Alyssa Trigger (Jason Naftulin), ex-wife and lifelong friend to Brian Barzcak, and cat mom to Bucca. Joanne was born in Amsterdam, NY, grew up in Rotterdam, NY and attended Mohonasen Central School, where she later returned to spend most of her teaching career. While attending Mohonasen she was involved in many clubs, civic organizations and fun activities, where she made lifelong friends who have never left each other’s lives, especially the “ring girls” who recently celebrated 45 years of friendship. Joanne “Micki” was a special friend to so many people and they will know who they are without being able to mention them all by name, because that’s who she was. She attended Geneseo State where she earned her BS in K-12 Special Education, but even more importantly she became a member of the Agonion Chapter (AGO) of Alpha Kappa Phi. The sisters she made during her years at the sorority truly became part of her family, including Mary Jo Ciccotti , Sue Bradt, Eileen Kozyra and many others. They gave her the endearing nickname “Micki” which has caused some confusion over the years, but mostly has shown how much she was loved. From Geneseo, “Micki” went on to complete her MS in Special Education at Russell Sage College and spent 35 years as an educator with Capital Region BOCES, primarily at Mohonasen until her retirement in 2013. The ocean and the lake were Joanne “Micki’s” happy places. She finally accomplished her lifelong dream of owning a place in Florida where she looked over the ocean and heard the surf every day! She loved her boat “On the Rocks” and was a member of the Sacandaga Boat Club for 30 years, where she spent her summers. She also loved to travel, mostly to places with beautiful waterscapes of course, and spent time in Aruba, Italy, Alaska, the Carribean, Brazil andGreece to name a few. It is fitting to end with the lyrics (we feel were written especially for her) from her favorite singer, Bruce Springsteen, who she saw in person more than 20x including Springsteen on Broadway a few months ago: “I’ll see you in my dreams when all our summers have come to an end; I’ll see you in my dreams, we’ll meet and live and laugh again; I’ll see you in my dreams, yeah around the river bend; For death is not the end; And I’ll see you in my dreams. A special thank you for the support and compassion from the Hospice staff, especially Dr. John Pezzulo and Susan Stewart, RN. Please consider making a donation in her name to the Special Education Division of Capital Region BOCES, 900 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12205. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 9:15-10:45am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A funeral mass will follow at 11:30am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Guilderland. Joanne will be laid to rest at a later date in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Amsterdam. We would appreciate if everyone who visits the family and attends services wear masks and maintain social distancing for the safety of all who care about Joanne “Micki” and her family. Thank you.
