Joann (Pietzykowski) Acevedo, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded b y her family on March 30, 2016 after a valiant fight against cancer. Joann was born on December 20, 1950 in Schenectady, NY. She attended St. Columbus School and Albany College of Pharmacy. Upon graduation from college, she went on to work for St. Peter's Hospital in the Chemistry Department for over 40 years. In 1994, she married Joseph W. Acevedo. Joann enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading and spending time with her family. She especially looked forward to the yearly family vacation to Orlando, Florida. Joann always had a smile on her face, was quick with a joke, and overall loved life. In addition to her husband of 22 years, Joann is also survived by her mother; Magdaline Pietzykowski and her father in law; Jose Acevedo, her sisters; Theresa (Alan) Richmond and Marie Pietzykowski, her loving nieces; Lisa Richmond and Stephanie (Gary) Wusterbarh and her adored great niece and nephew; Claire and Ryan Wusterbarth. She is also survived by Joseph's daughter, Nicole Acevedo, and her husband Colin Smith, and Joseph's grandchildren; Corbin and Naomi Smith as well as numerous cousins. Joann was predeceased by her father; Walter Pietzykowski, her mother in law; Noemi Acevedo and her brother; Phillip Pietzykowski. Calling hours will be held on Saturday morning from 7:30 to 9:30 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 am from the funeral home, followed at 10:30 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Kateri TekakwithaParish, 1803 Union St. in Niskayuna. Burial will follow at St. Adalberts Cemetery.
