Joan Thuotte, a beloved matriarch and cherished soul, passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025, a week shy of her 88th birthday. Born on November 1, 1937, Joan lived a life marked by grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and God.
She is survived by her children Joe, Cheri, John, and Michelle, along with Michelle’s husband, Mark Friedman. Joan’s legacy continues through her grandchildren—Connor, Noah, Meaghan, and Kiefer—who carry forward her warmth and wisdom. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great-grandchildren: Sophia, Roman, and Landon, each a testament to the enduring love she nurtured across generations. Joan is predeceased by her beloved husband Richard L. Thuotte and her daughter-in-law Ellie Thuotte.
Joan will be remembered for her always-present smile, laughter, overly generous spirit and boundless generosity. Since the passing of her husband, Richard Thuotte, in 2001, Joan has become the strength and backbone holding her family together. Her presence was a source of comfort and her laughter, a balm to all who knew her.
She greatly enjoyed and appreciated the support and fellowship with her Abounding Grace Christian Community. She also kept a close group of friends whose friendship she loved for many decades known as the "Monday Lunch" club.
A service will be held to honor her life at Abounding Grace Christian Church, located at 3060 Hamburg St, Schenectady NY, on Wednesday, October 29th. Visitation hours will be from 11:00AM - 12:30PM, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Schenectady City Mission or Abounding Grace Christian Church.
Her memory will live on in the stories told, the traditions upheld, and the love she instilled in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
