Joan D. Askew, 88, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 13, 2017. Born in Rotterdam, NY, the daughter of the late John and Theresa Hulett Case and graduated from Draper High School in 1945. She was employed by NY Telephone for five years and later worked as a Clerk with the Assessor’s office in the Town of Rotterdam retiring in 1996. Joan was a member of St. Gabriel’s Church and the Rotterdam Democratic Club. In addition to her parents, Joan was also predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, William R. Askew, who died in 2004 and her sister, Theresa M, Case and brother, John Case. She is survived by her children; William A. (Nancie) Askew of Rotterdam, Brian Askew of Florida and Kathy Connelly of Princetown, her sister; Phyliss Lynch of New York City, seven grandchildren, Kelly Kress, Sherry Connelly, Tina Cross, Brian Askew, William Askew, Samantha Mancini and Jill Askew, and four great grandchildren; Jeremy, Tyler and Brandon and Cheyanne. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 11:30 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel’s Church 3040 Hamburg St. Burial will be at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery.
