Jeane Agnes Marchitto passed away peacefully on December 4 at Teresian House with her family at her side.
She was born in Schenectady on October 18, 1920 to Santa (Intelisano) Gullott and Frank Gullott. She was extremely proud of her Sicilian Heritage and would often recount the story of her parent's passage from Italy to Ellis Island. Frank established a successful masonry business, Frank Gullott and Son. His brothers arrived and also became a part of it.
Jeane worked for the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance from 1963 until her retirement in 1983.
She met her future husband, Anthony (Tony) Marchitto, while working at the Menands Farmer's Market. They were married on September 6, 1942 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Monsignor Anthony Spina officiating. They welcomed their first son, Thomas, February 1945, their second son, Frank, 1948, and their daughter, Bernadette, 1953. Mom and Dad worked hard for our family. Though times were tough, we never had to do without anything.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Concetta, her brother George, her husband of fifty two years and her son, Dr. Thomas Marchitto.
Jeane was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church choir for many years. She also attended most funeral services and if there was no vocalist, would use her talent for the benefit of the family. She was active in their Senior's group and arranged many bus trips for many years. Jeane was in charge of the zeppole booth at their annual Festa in July. She rarely missed a Yankee game and if the phone rang during the game, she would not answer it.
She is survived by a son, Frank, a daughter Bernadette Grasso (William), eight grandchildren Sarah Marchitto (Michael Van Nieuwenhoven), Noah Marchitto (Desiree), Joshua Marchitto (Maegan), Joseph Marchitto, Gregory Grasso (Jennifer), Gina Trumble (Adam), Linnea Martino (Tom), and Melissa Marchitto, five great grandchildren; Leovonnie Marchitto, Trey Trumble, Cole Trumble, Jackson Grasso and Hunter Grasso.
Our Mom taught us the importance of family. She hosted all the holidays. Christmas Eve dinner taught the grandkids about the Feast of the Seven Fishes. As they got older, they participated in the preparation of our traditional food and that carried over to their own kitchens as Mom was no longer able to manage it. She looked forward to family times as we all did, but Mom even more if that was possible.
She taught us how to be strong, kindness to others always, and to never lose faith in God.
