Jean Lasorsa

d. April 9, 2024

ROTTERDAM - Jean Lasorsa, 89, passed away suddenly and peacefully at home on Tuesday April 9, 2024, with her beloved husband by her side. Born Luigia Abbadessa on November 10, 1934 in Giovinazzo, Italy, she was the daughter of Domenico and Raffaella (Palmiotto) Abbadessa. She met her husband, Saverio Lasorsa in 1956 and they were married on June 10, 1957. They came to the United States where they made their life together for almost 67 years. Jean’s biggest joy in life was her family; her favorite activity was doting over her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her beloved husband Sal, her four children: Rosanna and her husband Robert Beneventano of Hicksville, Ella and her husband Roger Marzella of Rotterdam, Lisa and her husband Dan Jordan of Schuylerville, and Joseph Lasorsa. Her ten grandchildren: Nicolle, Bobby, Michael and his wife Meghan, and Maria Beneventano, Alyssa and Laura Marzella, Joshua and his wife Valerie, Christina, Eli, and Stephen Jordan. She was overjoyed at the birth of her first great grandson James Beneventano and was eagerly awaiting the birth of her first great granddaughter in August. She is also survived by two sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews in Italy. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters.

Jean loved spending time with her family and friends, attending all of her grandchildren’s events, and traveling with her husband. She was known for her cooking, and feeding her family meant the world to her. She could always be found in the kitchen, planning and preparing for the next meal. Jean was the life of the party; she loved to sing and dance, especially when “Sweet Caroline” or “Celebration” came on. She had a dynamic personality and made friends everywhere she went. Her motto was “if you rest, you rust” and she lived by this until her last day.  She was a member of the Rotterdam Seniors and a past member of the Sons of Italy.

Jean’s deep faith carried her through her life. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel for over 50 years, in both the choir and the women’s society, and volunteered every year at the church’s festa. She never missed a Sunday.
