January 1, 1947 — June 8, 2026

Guilderland

Guilderland - Jay "Dick" McKenney passed gently and peacefully at home on June 8,2026 at the age of 79 following a long illness.

Jay is survived by his loving wife Eileen, son Brian McKenney and sister Karen McKenney. Jay was pre-deceased by his parents Clifton H. McKenney and Catherine Norma (Blayzor) McKenney as well as his fur buddies Charlie, Banner and Pepe.

Jay graduated from Mohonasen High School and proudly served during the Vietnam Era in the Air Force Air National Guard as an aircraft mechanic, 1966-1971.

Jay retired as a senior vice-president from a long career in banking and commercial lending at KeyBank of NY after starting in the print shop of National Commercial Bank and Trust which later became KeyBank. Along the way he mentored many future bankers and generously shared his vast knowledge of business banking and lending. Jay was also well known in the business communities of Schenectady and Albany as a trusted representative of KeyBank who helped to facilitate a number of todays successful and important local businesses.

Following retirement, Jay and Eileen spent many years traveling in the USA and Great Britain after which they settled into a happy life tending to their home and gardens. Jay was an avid golfer with a sweet swing who also enjoyed trap/skeet shooting, fishing and hunting until the onset of his illness.

Jay's family would like to extend their deep appreciation and heartfelt thanks to all the gentle and kind aides from Kingsway Homecare Services who all tended to Jay with respect, care and concern. They all made Jay's difficult path easier to bear.

In addition, many thanks to all the nurses, Case Managers, Social Workers, Chaplain and Support staff of Community Hospice of Albany whose solid and genuine concern for the comfort and care of Jay and support for his family were invaluable. To the ladies of Community Hospice who volunteered their time and talents honoring a veteran with a handmade blanket - we will always cherish and remember your gift that allowed Jay one of his last smiles.
