Janice M. Matteo

Janice Mary Matteo, 87, of Rotterdam, New York, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025.

Born and raised in Schenectady, Janice spent her early years surrounded by family and friends in the community she always called home. She went to work for General Electric, where she formed many lifelong friendships and took great pride in her work.

Janice was a woman of faith and quiet strength. She was well-known among family and friends for her beautiful poems, which she wrote to mark birthdays and special occasions. She also found great joy tending to her yard, where she spent countless hours caring for her flowers and enjoying the outdoors. Her greatest joy was her family.

Janice was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert, as well as by her parents, Pasquale and Rose Volpicelli, and her sister, Elizabeth Volpicelli. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa (Russell) and Lori (Mark), and her grandsons, Richard (Meaghan) and Andrew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am Thursday October 23rd at St. Gabriel’s Church 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY 12303.

A calling hour will precede the Mass from 10-11 am at the Church.

Janice will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert at St. Cyril’s Cemetery, Rotterdam.
