It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Colliton, 75, an outgoing, fun-loving, and sparkle wearing, wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away at home, September 3, 2025, with the love of her family. Janet was born in Albany, N.Y. on July 21, 1950 to the late Harold J. Kearns and Mary Kearns Danko. She grew up in Guilderland and graduated from Guilderland High School in 1968. Janet worked for New York State and retired in 1990.
The greatest love of Janet’s life was spending time with her beloved husband of 53 years, Irving E. Colliton and their beloved family. The two were an inseparable pair and lived every part of life together with love. Janet was an outstanding mother and grandmother. Janet happily and lovingly attended any event, activity, or situation that needed her attention for all of her children and grandchildren. Janet loved to play games on family game nights and usually was quite used to winning. Janet was a free spirit who loved to dress up in fancy or wild clothes and go out for the evening or just ride in the Mustang with the top down with her husband by her side. Janet never met a sequined or a leopard print she did not like. Janet loved to dance in her younger days. Janet also loved to watch home improvement shows so she could create, organize, and supervise her own home renovations with great detail, such as her beautiful kitchen remodel for a kitchen only her husband cooked in, earning her the title of “princess” from her husband.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Patricia Roemer (Walter), her sister-in-law Audrey Kearns, and her brother-in-laws, Barry Colliton (Patricia) and Paul Hognestead (Kathy). Janet is survived by children A’ndrea Perrine (Fred) and Jason Colliton (Geri); her grandchildren Hillary Brunet (Shawn), Katie Warren (Patrick), Audra Colliton, Alexis Perrine; her great-grandson Miles Warren; her brothers and sisters Harold Kearns (Deb), Dale Tobler (Mike), Deborah Moro (Mike), Ronald Kearns, Kathy Hognestead, and her sister-in-law Patricia Colliton.
Visitation will be at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home in Rotterdam on Monday from 10-11:30 am followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. Janet will then be entombed at St. Cyril’s Cemetery in Rotterdam. As per her wishes, children will not be welcome to attend her services.
