Jane S. Smith, 89, formerly of Clifton Park passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2020 after a long illness. Daughter to the late Charles E. Schermerhorn and Anna VanDeusen, she was born in Syracuse, NY. She was married to the late David H. Smith. She was predeceased by her sister Hope Woeger of Syracuse, NY, and her brother Warren Schermerhorn of Melrose, MA. After graduating from High School, she worked for the NY Telephone Company as a telephone operator. She stopped working when she had her children and became a devoted wife and mother- her favorite occupation. After her husband died in 1978, she became a receptionist at The Menands Workshop. She would then work as a child care provider at the Southern Saratoga YMCA after school program. She was a former member of the Dorothy Welch Choral Society. She was an avid doll collector, and a lover of animals. She will be forever missed by her son, Brian D. (Jean) Smith, and her daughter Karlyne S. (Nelson) Drimalas, and several beloved nieces and nephews. Services will be held privately by the family. Jane’s ashes will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in Jane’s name to the Alzheimers Association, 22512 Gateway Center Drive Clarksburg, MD 20871, the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave. Scotia, NY, 12302, or to SCRUFF Services, P.O. Box 200, Guilderland, NY, 12084. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Heritage Home in Schenectady and Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany for their compassionate care to Jane during her illness.
