Guilderland - Jane (Olive Peterman) Barrett, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2013 in Ellis hospital after a short illness. She was 91 years of age and resided with her son, James "Jim" Barrett, in Guilderland, NY for many years. She was born on November 27th, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY to Olive (Marsden) Peterman and Charles Peterman. She graduated High School in 1938. From there she went on to be a legal secretary during the Great Depression and World War II. She then settled down and raised a family. Jane loved to go to dancing competitions in her early years. She was especially fond of the Polka, which she often danced and won prizes with her husband, John. Jane was also a noted area and internationally known psychic medium, and would frequently take on clients well into her 80s, being an avid Spiritualist and a lifelong Catholic. She enjoyed traveling and visited many European countries, especially the British Isles. Jane married John "Johnny" Barrett in 1946, the love of her life, with whom she had two children. She was predeceased by her husband in 1982. Jane predeceases both children - James "Jim" Barrett and Jane (Barrett) Anclam.She also predeceases her son-in-law Richard Anclam, her granddaughter Susan (Anclam) Potter, and several nieces and nephews, along with her beloved pets. Jane loved cats, dogs, and all animals. She was an animal rights advocate most of her life. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Turnpike (just west of Carman Rd.), Guilderland. There will be a private Mass of Christian Burial at St. Madeleine-Sophie Church, Guilderland. Interment will be next to her loving husband and parents in St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, NY.
