James G Puorto Sr

Schenectady - James Gregory Puorto Sr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. James was born on February 2nd, 1948 to the late Gregory L. Puorto and Alfreda (Buchalski) Puorto. A graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, James went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Murray State University. He honorably served his country as a US Army Military Policeman. James was a dedicated Schenectady Fireman for 28 years retiring in 2001. His biggest joy in life was his family. His competitive spirit stemming from being an athlete, lead him to be an avid sports enthusiast, golfer, card player, and of course he loved betting the ponies. James leaves behind his children, Vincent Disorbo, Christofer Kaufman Puorto, Jamie Puorto (Ruba),Jada Leigh Puorto, James Gregory Puorto and Jenna Louisa Puorto, his grandchildren, Jake, Tyler and Kayla Kaufman, Lyla and Zander Puorto, Leila and Alana Puorto and Isaiah Jr., his sister, Linda Bibby (Donald), his brother, David G. Puorto (Charlene), former wife and dear friend, Jill Puorto and former wife, Lynn Kaufman as well as several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will take place on Sunday from 2-5pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue in Rotterdam. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11am at St. Luke’s Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady. Members of the City of Schenectady Fire Department active and retired are requested to meet at the funeral home Sunday evening at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’s name to help fund Little League Skills Camp, payable to: SOTBC (Schenectady Ole Timers Baseball Club), 133 Saratoga Rd., Apt 102-5, Scotia, NY 12302.
