Schenectady - James David “Jim” Platt, age 59, of Schenectady, passed away suddenly on January 1, 2023 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady. He was born Sept. 5, 1963 in Schenectady, son of the late William Platt and educated in Schenectady schools, graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School. James was known as a local chef, getting his start at the Van Dyke Restaurant and also worked for various local Schenectady restaurants. Jim was an avid sports fan. He was a huge Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan and loved watching the games. Survivors include his beloved family; his sister, Laurie Ferrara and her son, John Fraking, IV; son, Steven Thomas; daughter, Amber Thomas; a grandson, Steven Thomas, Jr.. Also surviving is his beloved girlfriend of over 30 years, Katherine Devin. He was preceded in death by his cherished great grandmother, Grace who passed away in 1984. The family will receive relatives and friends at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Monday evening, Jan. 9, 2023 from 5-6 pm. A funeral service will commence at 9:30 am on Tuesday, Jan. 10th at Parkview Cemetery, Schenectady with the Rev. Dominic P. Isopo, pastor of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, officiating.
