James M "Nick" Nicklaw

January 9, 1950 — December 21, 2021

Schenectady - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James “Nick” Nicklaw, 71, after a brief illness, (non Covid related). He passed on December21st, 2021, in Valhalla, NY. James was born on Jan. 9th, 1950 to the late Willard and Eileen Nicklaw. He was preceded in death by his brother Tom Nicklaw. He was son-in law to the late Raymond and Margaret Vincent. He was brother-in law to the late Jack and Richard Vincent. Nick, as he was known to most people, was truly a jack of all trades guy. He was always there to help friends and family with whatever they needed. He was a wonderful wood worker, always working on some project. He was also a great joke/story teller. A kid at heart, he loved his cartoons and movies. His favorite thing to do was to have family and friends over for food, drink and conversations, Thanksgiving being his favorite holiday. He loved taking care of the stray cats and kittens on our porch. He made sure they always had food and shelter. Nick worked for GE in Schenectady for 37 years, retiring in 2010. He worked as an inspector and at his retirement, he was a turbine assembler. He was a member of GE local IUE 301, the GE quarter century club, The“OMGW” club (Old Men Gone Wild), the Rotterdam Elks #2157 and the Elks Dart league. Nick is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Vincent) Nicklaw, whom he married February 2, 1974, his five children, David, Ryan, Stephen, Rebecca (Pete) Gerasia, and Patrick. And the light of his life, his granddaughter Ivy Gerasia. He is also survived by his brother John of Oregon, sister-in law Lorraine Nicklaw (late Tom) of Schenectady, brothers and sisters- in law Bud Vincent, Tom Vincent (Josephine), Shelia (Norman) Ditoro, and Joni (late Richard) Vincent, all of Schenectady. He is also survived by MANY nieces and nephews and his cat Trouble. As dad was so fond of saying, “Eat, Drink, and be Merry, for tomorrow we may all be dead.” In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KittenAngels.org, ASPCA.org, or a charity of your choice. Calling hours will be on Friday January 7th, from 11-1pm at DeMarco-Stone, Rotterdam 1605 Helderberg Ave. We ask that everyone attending be vaccinated and wear a mask.
