Rotterdam – James Kingston D’Arcy Jr., 81, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, October 7th, 2022. Born and raised in Troy, Jim was the son of the late James Kingston D’Arcy Sr. and Marie Sharkey D’Arcy. He graduated from LaSalle Institute and went on to earn his associates degree from Albany Business College. He began working for his father in the food brokerage business and later went on to have a 35-year career with New York State, first in civil service, where he met his beloved wife, Gail, and later moving on to the Department of Taxation and Finance where he began as a clerk, then worked as special assistant to the Deputy Tax Commissioner and finally as principal tax examiner before his retirement. In his younger years, Jim coached little league and enjoyed watching his 2 sons, Brian and Glen, play various sports and enjoyed supporting his daughter, Heather, in all of her artistic endeavors. Jim was a longtime member of the Rotterdam District 2 Volunteer Fire Department. He also bowled in the department’s bowling league, which he enjoyed greatly. A few of Jim’s favorite things were playing poker, watching his horses run at the Saratoga Harness Track, reading, spending time at the family camp on Schroon River, wintering in Iverness, Florida with Gail and rooting for his NY Yankees and NY Giants. Jim was also a lay pastor and active member of the former Rexford United Methodist Church, a place that meant so much to he and Gail. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, intelligence and outgoing and gregarious nature and will be dearly missed by his family. Jim leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Gail Gueperoux D’Arcy; his children, Brian D’Arcy (Darlene), Glen D’Arcy (Jennifer) and Heather D’Arcy Shovah (Eric); grandchildren, Morgan and Derek D’Arcy, Baker, Jamison and Emery D’Arcy and Harper and Vivienne Shovah as well as his siblings, Betsy Hobart and Wayne D’Arcy (Kathy) and a host of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Hank D’Arcy. A visitation will take place on Wednesday from 1-3pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, with a memorial service beginning at 3pm.
