Schenectady- James Conti born on June 19, 1927 in Jamestown NY. Son of Gabriel and Carmela Ferraloro Conti Passed away on June 29 2015. He was a 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School. James was WWII and the Korean War. Jim attended Lockhaven University where he received his Bachelors Degree and the University Of Buffalo where he received his Masters Degree. Jim did his graduate work at Cornell University and the University of Penna. He taught at the Otto Township Central School and was thefootball coach thereJim later taught in the Jamestown Public Schools and was the assistant junior high football coach.. He was also the first coach for the Jamestown Dukesthesemi pro football team in Jamestown NY. In 1969 Jim took a position with the New York State teachers Association (NYSTA) as Coordinator of the Western New York Regional Office and later the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) as Director of Field Services Operations. Over the years Jim also held other notable positions Vice President of NYSTA Chairman of NYSTA's first Political Action Committee (V.O.T.E) and was instrumental in the passage of The Taylor Law which gave public employees the right to collectively bargain with their employer and was also a member of the Governor's Task Force to study Occupational Health and safety. During his public career he was Councilman at Large in the City of Jamestown He was also cited in Community Leaders of American 1971 and Community Leaders and Noteworthy American 1975. Jim was chairman of the National Education Association Legislative Commission and presented the education planks to the republican National Convention in 1968. Among his other activities he was president of the Jamestown Teachers Association a founder and Chairman Emeritus of Northeastern New York Occupational Health Clinic. He was member of the American Legion, Sons of Italy Schenectady and the Italian heritage Museum. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Tutaro Conti His parents and his sister Josephine Conti -Sisley. Jim is survived by his wife Patricia Preston Conti, his children Rebecca Conti- Cole(Joseph) Rosemary Conti Brownell ( Richard) Gabriel Conti (Michelle) and Samuel Conti ,grandchildren Daniel (Stacy) Conti,Ryan, Mallory and Mitchell Brownell Giovanna and Rosaria Conti, Adrianna and Katrina Conti ,Tyler Cole, Damani Daniel, Olivia and Sophia DeLorenzo Great Grand Children Gianna, Aubrey and James Conti Step Children Joshua (Michele) DeLorenzo and Bianca DeLorenzo And Several Nieces and Nephews and Step grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at St Madeleine's Sophie's Church on Thursday July 2 2015 at 10amInterment will be at Saratoga National Cemetery Schuylerville NYat a time to be announced
