James "Jimmie" Barlow

Schenectady – James (Jimmie) A. Barlow, 88, passed on to eternal life Tuesday November 13, 2018 at home. Born Jan. 4, 1930 in Schenectady NY the son of Samuel Barlow and Angelena King Barlow. Jim (Jimmie) was predeceased by his parents, brother Albert Barlow, his wife Doris Evelyn Comstock Barlow and a fiancé Margaret (Peggy) Zyskowski. Jim is survived by his wife Barbara Roberts Barlow, his daughter Karen (Kat) DeRose, a grandson Matthew Tyler DeRose of Mechanicville, his partner Sarah, and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by four step daughters , Mary ( Robert) Pelletier, Elizabeth (John) Laura , Ellen (David) Kodz and Kathy ( Scott)Trudo , 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jim graduated with honors from Mont Pleasant Technical High School in 1947 and began his career with GE Schenectady that December in the Apprentice Drafting course. He retired more than 47 years later in April of 1994 as a Manager for Planning and Measurement in the Gas Turbine Engineering Support Operation. During his career with GE he worked as draftsmen, designer, engineer, drafting specialist and computer operations and development specialist. In 1958 Jim became a member of Lisha’s Kill Reformed Church and served in faith for over 40 yrs as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, deacon, elder, and served on the consistory as treasurer. He later joined St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church where he remained a faithful parishioner. Jimmie often said he attempted to live his life and faith as shown in Matthew 25:31-46 and 5:3-10. Jim was a life member of the Alplaus Volunteer Fire company, a member of the Board of Directors of the Schenectady Bowlers Association and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity where he served as a project manager. Jimmie was an avid Bowler and Golfer. Jim met Barbara in 2009 and they married on February 11, 2012. It isn’t often that two people find love later in life, but Jimmie and Barbara did. Over the last 10 years they made wonderful memories together. They traveled, shared a love of Disney, and enjoyed every minute God gave them. Services will be private. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. John Pezzulo, the staff at Kingsway and Community Hospice for their care and support.
