Schenectady - Irene F. Spinnler, 102, passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home in Schenectady, NY. Irene was born November 15, 1919 in Schenectady to Fred and Mary Ferri, graduating from Mont Pleasant High School where she actively participated in many sports and organizations. Following High School she worked at General Electric in the bond division and in her spare time wrapped bandages for the WW II effort. Following the war she married Eugene, a WWII veteran, in June 1947. They moved to Guilderland with Irene’s parents in 1950, had two children and lived there until Eugene’s death in 2005. She worked from home as executive secretary for the Home Builders Association of Schenectady, Executive Secretary-Saratoga/Northern NY Builders Association and Executive Secretary of Utility Contractors Association of NY finally retiring in 2008 at the age of 89. In 2005, Irene moved next door and lived with her daughter Mary Gene and her husband Joe. Irene always focused on caring for and feeding others, caring for her family as well as her parents all while working. She volunteered to lead a Troop 50 Cub Scout Den when no leader was available and continued as Den Mother well past her son’s participation. Irene was a longtime parishioner of St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church. She was a voracious reader and library user, particularly interested in good mystery novels. She was a successful gardener of both flowers and vegetables and a great cook well into her 90’s. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 2005. She is survived by daughter Mary Gene (Joe)Tanski, son Gerard Spinnler (Polly), grandchildren Richard Tanski (Jessica), Dana Spinnler (Amin Motazedian), Allison Spinnler and Carl Spinnler (Halli Sanchez), great granddaughter Lucy, grandcat Clarence and granddog Max. Visitation will be held at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.,Rotterdam, NY 12306 on Wednesday, August 17 from9:30-11:00 a.m. A service will begin at 11a.m. Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady, NY.
