Ida (Messina) Dobies

Mrs. Ida M. Dobies (Messina) of Charleston, SC passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2015.She was 98 years old.Ida was born on April 3, 1917 in Schenectady, NY where she was a resident for 87 years. Her parents were Angelo and Felippa(Conti) Messina. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Chester R. Dobies in 1996; brothers Joseph Messina and Anthony Messina; and sisters Rose Ottaviano, Carmela Smart and Angela Wade. She is survived by her children Chester Dobies, Robert Dobies(Maureen) and Margaret Valachovic(Joseph); grandchildren Kimberly Slee(Hugh), Amy Farmer(Thomas), Margot Lutz(Peter) and Daniel Valachovic(Kristen); great grandchildren Matthew, Jason, Fiona, Anna, Peter, William and Maura; sisters, Margaret Krone, Helen Brauner and Mary Valente and several nieces and nephews. Ida worked at Ellis Hospital, where she met her husband, Chester Dobies, and at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital.She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Schenectady New York where she was active in the Rosary and Altar Society. Ida was also active in public school PTA's and Study Groups. She was an avid reader of books and newspapers, enjoyed crocheting and cooking.She had an active mind, remembering to recognize others' special occasions by correspondence and phone.Ida was a very devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home Inc 1605 Helderberg Ave Rotterdam on WednesdayMay 20 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Princetown Road Rotterdam On Thursday May 21 2015 at 9 am. Interment will follow at St Cyrils Cemetery Duanesburg Road Rotterdam.
