Howard "Nick" C Nichols

Pattersonville, NY – Howard “Nick” Charles Nichols, age 75, received his angel wings on Tuesday, January 30th, 2018. Nick was born in Albany on September 16th, 1942, the son of the late Howard S. Nichols and Esther C. Kipp Yando. Nick was the quartermaster with the New York State Police in Latham, a job which he enjoyed very much. He retired in 2014 after 18 years of service. Nick will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love and devotion to his family. He was a free spirit, often found riding his Harley with his wife, Alice. Nick also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family and treasured friends and co-workers. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Alice R. (Burke) Nichols, his devoted children, Deborah Reichel (Ronald), Howard “Nick” Nichols Jr. (Brenda), Lisa VanDyke and Brenda LaMontagne (John), his step-children, Tinamarie Tayler and Paul Boettner, his loving grandchildren, Tia, Joshua, Nick, Kyle, Becky, Rhiannon, Chris, Brian, Jamie, Cassy, Brandon, Devin, Rubyann and Richard and his 6 great grandchildren as well as his beloved sister-in-law, Mary VanNatten (Jim) and his adored feline companion, Chloe and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Nick was predeceased by his sister, Audrey Forgett and his mother-in-law, Alice Burke Gabree. Calling hours will be on Friday, February 2nd from 2-6pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. in Rotterdam. A funeral service will begin at 6pm. Interment will take place in the spring at Viewland Cemetery. Nick’s family would like to thank the entire medical staff at Ellis Medicine for the care and love that they showed Nick during his illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nick’s name may be made to the NYS Police Signal 30 Benefit Fund, 120 State St., 2nd Floor, Albany, NY 12207 or online at signal30.org.
