Howard G Moyer

North Greenbush – Howard G. Moyer, 89, passed away at home on Tuesday May 3rd, 2022. Howard was born in Johnstown, NY on September 13, 1932 to his parents, the late Glen and Velma Moyer. He served our country in the United States Navy. Howard was a graduate of the State University at Cortland, Syracuse University and Union College. He taught science at Central Park Middle School in Schenectady for 37 years and was famous for his 3-day Cape Cod trip where he took students for over 20 years camping while studying geology. He also enriched the lives of his students with his spelunking field trips and trips to New York City. Since retiring in 1997, he has organized a yearly retiree party helping to keep former colleagues in touch with each other. Howard was a long-standing member of Schenectady Light Opera Company where his beautiful baritone voice could be heard in many shows. While active with SLOC, he directed several shows there and with Schenectady Civic Players. It was at SLOC where he met his beloved wife, Debra. Howard was also a member of the Schenectady Veterans Club. Family and friends enjoyed his culinary skills, his sense of humor and his loyal and generous nature. He also enjoyed bicycling, traveling and was an avid reader. Along with his wife Debra Enright Moyer, Howard is survived by his son, Brett H. (Shirlene) Moyer, his sister Carol (Joseph) Schultz, his grandson Ryan (Erika) Moyer and his granddaughter Briea Moyer (Brandon Maggio). He is also survived by his great grandchildren David and Alanna Moyer. Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial contributions be made to the Schenectady Light Opera Co. or the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
