Helen L. Schauman, 63, of Rotterdam, passed away at her home on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Helen was born in Schenectady and graduated from Mohonasen High School in 1978. She served honorably in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1981. Helen was employed as a Keyboard Specialist with the NYS Comptroller’s office for 20 years. Most of her life however, was spent as a homemaker and caregiver for her children and other family members.

Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years, Randy T. Schauman, who died in 2018 and her parents, Lawrence C. Chichester and Myrtle S. (Hamm) Askew.

She is survived by her daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Schauman of Schenectady and Jennifer Schauman, her sisters, Judy Bartholomew of Rotterdam and Doreen Hedlund of Schenectady and 5 grandchildren, Aleah Schauman, Madeline Phelps, Jaiden Phelps, Kevin Sands and Ciara Sands. And many nieces, nephews and cousins and Lexie her fur baby.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday August 19th from 10 am to 12 noon at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. followed at 1 pm by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lukes Church, State St.

Burial will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Schenectady Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave. Schenectady, 12302.
