Schenectady - Hedwig (Edith) Grzybowski-Greene passed away at Ellis Long Term Care on Saturday, August 4, 2018 after a short illness. She was 98 and lived a full life, strong-willed and feisty until the end. Born on August 13, 1919, in Schenectady, she was predeceased by her parents Ludwig and Mary Grzybowski. Edith was the youngest daughter of seven children (Mary, Anna, John, Louise, Frank, Walter - all deceased). Edith graduated from Nott Terrace High School and Albany Business College. She worked for a short time at the General Electric Co. Edith married Chester Greene (Zielinski) on March 12, 1944. Chester passed away on January 11, 1984. Edith was a bookkeeper for Crescent Dairy, owned by Chester and Edith. After almost 20 years in the dairy business, Crescent Dairy was sold to Bellevue Dairy. Chet and Edith became the owners of The Midway Tavern, Midway Motels, and the Midway Barber and TV Repair Shops on Central Avenue, in Colonie. NY. Chet and Edith lived in Schenectady, where they raised their children. Family was important to Edith. She thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and watching them achieve. Edith enjoyed watching the Yankees on TV, playing pinochle, going to Saratoga Flat Track as well as the night track, and garage sales. In the late 1980’s mom took a trip to Poland and visited her relatives. Loving mother of Mary Jo Johnson (Clifford), Susan Ferrara (Charles), Jan Greene-Catalano (Ralph) and Bruce Greene (deceased) (Cindy). Cherished grandmother of Ron Carter, Anisa Douglas (York, So. Carolina), Lindsay Giordano (Anthony) (Brooklyn, NY), Lucas Ferrara, Adam Greene and Great Granddaughter Peyton Elizabeth Giordano: Edith is also survived by a niece and several Nephews. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Church, 225 Lafayette St, Schenectady, NY on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Ellis Long Term, 600 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY 12304 or St. Josephs Church, 225 Lafayette Street, Schenectady, NY. 12305. We love you mom -you will always be in our hearts till the end of time.
