Hazel G (Groce) Mortimer

Hazel G. Mortimer, 93, of Rotterdam, died peacefully on Monday morning, September 7, 2015 at the Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center. Hazel was born in Clarion Pa.She graduated from High School in Pennsylvania and moved to Rotterdam in 1940 where she worked, for several years, at the Rotterdam Tax Office before becoming a homemaker. Hazel was a member of the Rotterdam United Methodist Church, the Rotterdam Elks LORE, Rotterdam Senior Citizens, the Woestina Democratic Club and was a member of the Rotterdam Dist. #2 Fire Dept. Women's Auxiliary for 72 years. Hazel waspredeceased by her beloved husband Leo Mortimer, who died on August 5, 2000, her father, Parker Groce, her step father William Smith, her mother, Twila Groce Smith and her sister, Bessie Croyle. She is survived by her daughters; Karen (Wade) Phillips of Rotterdam and Diane (Bill) Paul also of Rotterdam,four grandchildren; Donald (Lisa) Phillips, David (Lori) Phillips, Denise Paul-Lyman and Billy (Sandra) Paul and 12 Great grandchildren; Nicholas, Marissa, Bruce, Emma L., Jolie, Emma C., Molly, Noel, Grace, Cecilia, Leo and Henry. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 11 am to 1 pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave.Funeral services will begin at the funeral home at 1 pm. Burial will follow the services at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Ellis Residential and rehabilitation Center, Edison Wing,for their compassion and care during Hazel's time there. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donation s be made to the Rotterdam United Methodist Church, 1915 Helderberg Ave. 12306 or to the Carmen United Methodist Church, 2350 Hamburg St. 12303.
