Rotterdam- Hazel M. Herrick, 88, of Rotterdam, went home to the Lord peacefully, with her family by her side on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. Hazel was born in Putnam, New York on January 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Levi and Ellen Herrick; predeceased by siblings, Roscoe Herrick, David Herrick, Marjorie Bonitatibus, Myrtle Latrimore, Eleanor Eliashuk, and Carrie Root. She graduated from Ticonderoga High School in 1942; from there she moved to Schenectady. Hazel is predeceased by her first born child, Bonita Bonitatibus Paniccia; survived by her loving daughter, Linda Bonitatibus Fonda of Delaware and devoted son, Mark Bonitatibus of Rotterdam; grandchildren, Anthony Paniccia of Colonie, Joseph and Sara Paniccia of Rotterdam, her "Princess" Danielle Fonda of Delaware, Justin Fonda of Delaware; great grandchildren, Aaron Paniccia of Rotterdam, Joseph, Andrew and Mia Paniccia of Rotterdam, Ariana Fonda of Delaware and many loving nieces and nephews, especially Paula Gordon, for her love and devotion to her Aunt, since she was a teenager; also Christina Archambeault for her devotion and friendship to her Great Aunt, as well as fulfilling her dream of planting a "Secret Garden"in her back yard. Hazel held numerous positions through the years and retired in 1991 from the City Clerk's Office in Schenectady City Hall. Hazel loved: her little rescue dog Sparky; surprising her family each year with a different themed Christmas tree; for many years, reading the gazette from beginning to end over coffee; playing Skip- Bo with her family; visiting her family in Delaware. She was an avid, die hard Yankee fan until the very end. The family would like to thank Eve and Amber of Community Hospice of Schenectady; the nurses at Ellis Hospital on C4 for their care and support. Also, a special thank you to Kim Noyes for her friendship and spiritual guidance to Hazel. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 12 from 5 to 7pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, Rotterdam. A service will immediately follow at 7pm the Rev. Tim Christian officiating. Burial in Memory Gardens will be private at the convenience of the family.
