Harris J ("Joe") Galinsky

Harris J. Galinsky, better known as "Joe" to family and friends, passed away on Sunday July 1, 2018. Born in 1928 in Long Branch, NJ, Joe will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and also his quirky sense of humour. Prior to serving in the Korean War and being awarded a Purple Heart, Joe lived in Brooklyn, NY. After being discharged he resided in Long Beach, NY, graduating from Hofstra University with a BBA and also receiving an MPA as a post graduate student at SUNY Albany. After working NYS Department of Audit and Control and also the Division of Housing, Joe relocated to Albany retiring in 1989 from OMRDD. Joe was a member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the DAV, several local ballroom dance clubs, L'Allegro, The Cotillion, Mid-Singles and Couples and Tri-Singles. Joe was predeceased by his parents; Dora and Ben, also his siblings; Marcia and Abe, and more recently by his brother in law; Harry. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Norma, after a happy 52 years, his darling niece Jean as well as many friends in various walks of life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mohawk and Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands, NY, 12204, Whiskers , PO Box 11190, Albany, NY 12211 or to Guilderhaven, 6655 Route 158, Altamont, NY 12009 would be appreciated. No mass cards please. At Joe's request, there will not be a wake or funeral service. His cremated remains will be interred at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. Our sincere thanks and much gratitude to the members of the Silver Team, also Dr. Fellegi and the Home Based Care personnel at the Albany Veterans Medical Center for all their help, kindness and compassion during Joe's decline. Special thanks to Joe's aides; Susan, Nicole and Bridget. Their help has been invaluable. In recent weeks we received welcome support from Hospice. Sincere appreciation to Craig and all the team members involved in helping during the final difficult days. Â
