Grayce S (Smith) Barton

Grayce Smith Barton of Berkley Square, Glenville, New York, died on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the age of 83. Mrs. Barton was born on July 7, 1933 in Troy, New York, the daughter of the late John H. Smith and Ernestine Lee Smith. She graduated from Watervliet High School and attended Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. She was employed by General Electric in Schenectady, New York as an electro mechanical draftsman for the Industry Control department and then the Large Steam Turbine department. On February 4, 1955, Mrs. Barton married Milton Francis Barton. She has a degree in Studio Art and Art History from the State University of New York at Albany. Mrs. Barton belonged to numerous civic organizations. She was a member and president of the Forest Hills Garden Club and she was a former Schenectady County chairman of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State. She served on the Third District board of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State for eight years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Schenectady Museum where she served as docent and occasional art history lecturer. Mrs. Barton gave art history lectures for other civic and not for profit organizations. Mrs. Barton was a member of the Mayfield Yacht Club. She was a member and deacon of the First Reformed Church in Scotia. She was a charter member of the Upstate New York Committee for the National Museum for Women in the arts in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Barton was predeceased by her brother, Robert R. Smith. She is survived by her beloved husband, Milton Barton, her siblings, John J. (Jack) Smith, and Ernestine Merrihew (Ralph), her children, Brian Barton (Carolyn) and Kim Barton and her grandson, Michael Barton. Memorial donations may be made to First Reformed Church of Scotia, 224 N. Ballston Ave, Scotia, NY 12302 or the charity of your choosing. Burial at Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga, New York at the convenience of the family.
