Gloria Ann (Mazzarella) Calarco

Schenectady – Gloria Ann Mazzarella Calarco, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long illness on Monday April 23, 2018 at the Glendale Home. Born on January 27, 1928 in Schenectady she graduated from Nott Terrace High School and was a lifelong Schenectady resident. Gloria worked for many years in the office of Calarco Foods which was the family business. Upon retirement she lovingly grand-baby sat for her first born grandson. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, crossword puzzles, reading the newspaper and most of all Jeopardy. Her husband, Joseph Raymond Calarco, whom she married on April 18, 1948, passed away on April 28, 2001. She is survived by her daughters; JoAnn Calarco of Indianapolis, IN and Gloria Martinson and son-in-law Gunnar of Chandler, AZ. Grandchildren; Alex Martinson and wife Mahasin of Indianapolis, IN and Austin Martinson of Chandler, AZ. Her brother; Lewis Mazzarella and sister-in-law Susan of Gainesville, FL. Her sister-in-law, Lillian Calarco of Schenectady, NY. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, grand nieces and cousins along with her dearest friends and care givers, Ray Jacobs, Ellen Herlihy and Ann Kost. Along with her husband, Gloria was predeceased by her parents, Louis and Anna DePalma Mazzarella, her brother-in-law, Sylvester Calarco and her Aunt, Janette (Dorothy) Mazzarella. The family wants to extend their special thanks to the brief but loving care given by the staff of C-3 wing-Erie Crossing at the Glendale Home and to Doug Burleigh, Hospice Chaplain, for his comforting words. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin 8 am Saturday at the funeral home followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady. Burial will follow at St. John’s cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our lady of Mt. Carmel Church or American Cancer Society 1 Penny Lane, Latham, NY 12110.
