SLINGERLANDS- It is with great sadness that we announce that our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother Gladys Interlicchio, passed away on April 24, 2025. She was born on March 4, 1936 and raised (proudly) in Brooklyn, New York, where she attended Mass at St. Lucy’s and the Brooklyn High School for Homemaking.
She met and married her husband Jim, and moved to Albany, New York (she also brought her parents with her, for good measure). She started a new life with her husband and in time, they built a house on Garden Street. There she became a mother to her four children and met many friends who would also become family. Together, that combined family shared years of laughter, shed a few tears, and caused maybe a “little” bit of mischief. During that time, she also became a foster parent with Jim, fulfilling a calling to love as many children as she could. She also made lifelong friends while working for the City of Albany in the Parks Department.
Gladys leaves behind a legacy of four children (six, when you add in Linda and Ernie Papa): James (Michelle), Libby Biernat (Dave), Rosalie Palmer (Billy), and Catherine, as well as six grandchildren, Gina (Nate), David, Rachel (Bradley), Bethany (Eric), Spenser and Sophia. She also proudly claims credit for her six great grandchildren, and many other family members, who loved her dearly and shared beautiful memories over the years.
She is predeceased by her parents, Florence (Stickney) and Carmine Cataldo, her two sisters (Stella, Libby) and five brothers (Frank, George, Carmine, Pat, Johnny), as well as her beloved husband Jim (Boobie).
Gladys will always be remembered for her kindness, her charity towards others, her fierce love for her family and friends, her dance moves with her husband Jim, and her Brooklyn accent, which she never quite lost.
Services to celebrate and remember her beautiful life will be held Thursday May 1, 2025 at Christ the King Church 20 Sumter Ave. Guilderland where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with Glady’s family on Wednesday April 30, 2025 from 4-7 pm in the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Ave. Guilderland. Interment will be Thursday at 2:30 pm in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
Gladys always held a special love and devotion to St. Jude; if you would like to send a charitable donation, please go to www.stjude.org, or send your gift to:
