Giuseppina "Josephine" Demarco

February 13, 1930 — December 23, 2017

Rotterdam - Giuseppina (Josephine) DeMarco, 87, of Rotterdam was granted her angel wings on December 23, 2017 at Ellis Hospital with her loving family by her side. Giuseppina was born and educated in San Giovanni e Paolo, Italy, and was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria DeMarco and loving wife to John DeMarco for 64 years. After living through hardships and World War II, John and Giuseppina immigrated to the United States with their three children in 1966 and settled in the Schenectady area. She was employed as a seamstress at the Cheltingham Factory for many years and finished her career as a housekeeper in the Environmental Services department at St. Clare’s Hospital. Giuseppina was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and a member of the Mt. Carmel Seniors. She participated in many church functions throughout the years, including her favorite, making “pizza fritta” at the annual Festa. She lived a full and robust life that kept her close to the kitchen, feeding everyone who passed through her home. Taking care of her family was her number one priority. She kept busy harvesting, cooking, canning and sharing all the vegetables from her husband’s large garden. When she wasn’t cooking you could find her baking her favorite “viscoot” or chocolate chip cookies for her grandkids. Giuseppina was predeceased by her brother Angelo (Gioconda) DeMarco and grandson, Steven J. Signore. She is survived by her loving husband John, siblings, John (Elisa), Mario (Joanne), Paul (Felicia), and Antonietta Fazzone (Louis); daughter Anna Signore (Anthony), Joe DeMarco (Pina), and Paul DeMarco (Carolyn); grandchildren, Daniel DeMarco (Gina), Stephanie Cairns (David), Jonathan Signore (Lauren), Amanda Mannato (Chris), Jessica DeMarco, Julia Costello (Anthony), and Christopher DeMarco; and great-grandchildren Sofia DeMarco and Colin Cairns. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces/nephews and grand-nieces/nephews whom she was very close with both here and in Italy. Family and friends are invited to call at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Schenectady, NY 12306, on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 4 PM to 7 PM. Funeral services will begin 8 am Saturday, December 30th at the funeral home followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will follow at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Giuseppina’s family would like to thank the ICU, 4th floor, and Cardiology staff at Ellis Medicine for all the care, smiles and joy they brought her. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Giuseppina’s name may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Seniors, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady, NY 12303, or to the Ellis Medicine Cardiology Department.
