Gino Reggio, 87, of Rotterdam, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Ellis Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Fanna, Italy, Gino eventually lived and immigrated to the United States from Holland in 1948 at the age of 18. He was employed at General Electric as a mason in the Engineered Cast Products Division and also established, owned and operated Reggio Tile & Marble, Company in Schenectady for many years. He was a longtime member of St. Madeleine Sophie Church where he and his late wife Laura where married on May 13, 1950. Gino was a skilled and avid outdoorsman with a comprehensive understanding of nature and the natural environment which he learned and cultivated as young man in the foothills of the Italian Alps. He especially enjoyed hunting and spending time in the Adirondack region. He was an NRA lifetime member and affiliated with several rod & gun clubs including the Watervliet, Forbes and Saratoga. Above all, Gino will be remembered as a true gentleman, his kind and courteous nature and willingness to care for the needs of others before him. Gino was predeceased by his parents, Gino and Benvenuta Alessandrini Reggio, his beloved wife Laura Calabro Reggio, who died in January 2016., his daughter; Gina Reggio, who died in 1995 and brother in law; Paul Koopman. He is survived by his Son; Richard P. Reggio and his wife Deborah L. Reggio of Berlin, NJ., three grandchildren; Christina Reggio, of Philadelphia PA., Victoria Reggio of Berlin, NJ., and Michael Morrill of Saratoga Springs, his sister; Rose Koopman of Schenectady as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 8:30 to 10:45 am at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1606 Helderberg Ave. followed at 11:30 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3510 Carman Rd in Guilderland. Burial will follow the Mass at Schenectady Memorial Park Cemetery. Gino’s family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to friends and neighbors; Shelia Lackraj, Kelly Charette, Thelma Kingsley and Bill and Judy Becker for the selfless care and support they provided to Gino and his family.
