Gilbert E. Lawyer, 82, of Ballston Lake, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Ellis Hospital. Gilbert was born in Schenectady, NY and graduated from Middleburg High School. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Gilbert was employed as a baker with the Charles Freihofer Baking Co. for over 30 years. He was also the former co-owner of the Rolling Green Bowling in Rotterdam. Gilbert enjoyed fishing and camping, and was an avid casino attendee, especially the Racino in Saratoga. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, Clifford and Henrietta Rivenburg Lawyer, twelve brothers and sisters; Walter Lawyer, William Lawyer, Garrie Lawyer, Hanson Lawyer, Donald Lawyer, Augie Lawyer, Albert Lawyer, Johnny Lawyer, Barbara Lawyer, Lenora Jump, Elizabeth Schultz and Mary Ellen Moshier. He is survived by his longtime partner, Virginia Attanasio, his son, Gilbert E. Lawyer Jr. of Saratoga, his brother; Wallace (Arlene) Lawyer of Schenectady, three step children; Laurie Curthoys, Dawn (Dave) Fusco and John Attanasio, four step grandchildren, Danny (Sarah) Colabelli, Justin Attanasio, Zachary Kilmer and Danielle Attanasio and three step great grandchildren. Gilbert is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Thursday morning, 10 am to 12 noon at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services, with military honors, will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Pine West Plaza Building 2, Suite 204, Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, 12205 or at diabetes.org. Gilbert’s family would like to thank Dr. Frank Genovese, the Nurses and staff in the Neuroscience ICU at Ellis Hospital for the compassion and care they gave to Gilbert and his family.
