Schenectady - Gerhard "Jerry" Buechner of Schenectady died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 13 surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 2, 1916 in Scotia, NY, he was the son of Gunther and Helene Buechner.He was a graduate of Scotia HS and held a B.S. Degree from NYS College of Forestry at Syracuse University.He served in the US Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 as a weather observer and forecaster and was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was employed by General Electric for over 41 years, retiring as a production specialist in 1981.He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157 and Lynnwood Reformed Church. Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Joyce Morgan Buechner, who died on April 20 of this year. He is survived by his seven children: Norman (Pat), Linda (Tim) Patryk, Janice (Richard) Kinzel, James, Joanne (David) Romanowski, Richard (Melissa) and David (Nancy). Eleven grandchildren: Thomas, Eric, Donna Flannery, Sharon Hansen, Jeremy, April, Steven and Jonathan Romanowski, Jill Henderson, Morgan and Mackenzie and ten great-grandchildren: Kendall, Andrew, Adam, Aidan, Eden, LJ, Makayla, Dylan, Luke and Reece. He is also survived his sister-in-law June Baker of Florida, nieces, Nancy Hanson and Hannele Jagielo of Washington State, Cheri Hannan of Troy, and several other nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his granddaughter Bailey and his brother Helmut Buechner. The family wishes to extend profound gratitude to all the dedicated caregivers who so compassionately tended to him during his final days. Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memory's Garden, Colonie.
