Rotterdam - Gerald E. Marshall passed away on June 14, 2021, just shy of his 89th birthday. He was born June 30, 1932, in Amsterdam New York, the son of James and Ruth Marshall. Soon after graduating high school, Jerry enlisted in the Navy. He served Active Duty in the Korean War on the destroyer USS Douglas H. Fox DD-779. After sailing the world with the Navy, Jerry returned home where he enjoyed a long and successful career working for General Electric where he retired as a foreman. He was a lifetime member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. He was a devoted Mets fan, golfer, and fisherman. In his youth Jerry was a successful competitive speed skater. This eventually led to him meeting the love of his life, Doris, at the ice rink. They married after he returned from the Navy and started their family. Jerry was the loving father of three children. Jerry spent much of his free time on the Great Sacandaga Lake building his family camp. He was quite enthusiastic about wood working and building. For several decades, the Marshall family spent summers at the camp enjoying the beaches, lake, and boating. The camp has been an epicenter of creating memories for family and friends for many years and will continue to be a cherished place for Jerry's loved ones to gather and honor him. Being an animal lover, he and his family had many cats and dogs. He always supported causes like animal protection, conservancy, and adoption. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 67 years, Doris, his three children Karen A. (Tom Vassi), Kevin E., and David J. (Daniel Smith), his sister-in-law Nancy Antoniewicz and brother in-law Tom Rogers, many wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents James and Ruth Marshall, his sister Elaine Rogers (Tom), his brother James, and his best friend and brother-in-law Ron Antoniewicz. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
