George A Lawson

January 16, 1929 — August 19, 2014

Rotterdam - George Lawson, 85, passed away at home on Tuesday August 19, 2014 surrounded by his family. George grew up in Schoharie and spent many years living in Schoharie County running a gas station where he met Ruth. George was an avid hunter and enjoyed many years looking for that "trophy buck". He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling and riding his Harley and was an active member of the pistol team and the Harley owners group. George and Ruth spent many winters in Florida but they couldn't stand being away from their grandchildren. George retired from the Watervliet Arsenal after 25 years of service and continued to work construction for Charlew Builders until he was 70 years old. He was a character and liked to have a good time. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. We will all continue to love and laugh with the great memories he left behind. xoxo. George was predeceased by his parents, his sister Peggy and his brother Kenny. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth. His children; Cindy Lawson, Tom (Linda) Lawson, Terry Lawson, Patricia Lawson and Carol (Cecil) Davis. His 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. George is also survived by his sister Barbara Hotaling and his brothers Arthur (Caroline) Lawson and John Lawson. Calling hours will be held Friday from 5-7 pm at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam followed by a service at 7 pm. Private burial will be in Middleburgh Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in George's memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
