Rotterdam – George Henry Hughes Jr. who was born in Albany on November 30, 1949 to Addea (Lu) & George Hughes Sr. died on Thursday after struggling with a long chronic illness. It is with such sadness to say goodbye to George who was a very devoted Christian and a dedicated & loving husband, father and his greatest role – grandfather. George is survived by his cherished wife Debbe (Morrette) Hughes, his son Brian and Melissa Hughes, daughter Stacie and Rich Bebo, son Adam and Viktoriya Hughes & their son Conner Hughes. George spent summers by the pool with Conner teaching him all his swimming skills & spending evenings at the movies eating popcorn. George is also survived by his brother Charles and Elaine Hughes and his sister Debbie Hughes and Chuck Effinger.He leaves behind to cherish his memory Jan and Carmen Libertucci, Jeff Morrette. George also leaves behind many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and such wonderful Paul Ave. neighbors. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine (Kay) and Karl Zielfeld. George was active in the South Schenectady Fire Department for many years and many years coaching Rotterdam Little League. He worked at Goodyear Tire up until retirement several years ago. The family would like to thank Dr. Maze & Dr. Parkes who worked so hard to help George lead his best life. Also, our thanks to Fr. Jim Belogi for being our strength & George’s friend. A visiting hour will be held Tuesday from 10:30-11:30am at St. Madeleine Sophie Church 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 noon. Covid rules apply and masks are required. Burial will be at St. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to St. Madeleine Sophie Church or the American Heart Association.
