George E Glenn

Rotterdam- George E. Glenn, 74, of Rotterdam, passed away at Ellis Hospital on February 16th, 2014 following a long illness. He was the son of the late Frank K. and June C. (Williams) Glenn. Following graduation from Nott Terrace High School he began a career as a printer at the Schenectady Gazette. He worked in the composing room where he assembled the classified section of the newspaper for many years. Following a stroke in 1985 he continued a productive life with his family and friends. His favorite times were spent with his cherished granddaughter Madison, playing board games. George enjoyed attending sporting events with his son and his friends. He was a faithful fan of the New England Patriots and enjoyed many years of recreational boating on Lake George and golfing. He especially enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and Florida. His sharp wit and keen memory served him well as he could recall events from the distant past with clarity and detail. He served in the National Guard and was a lifelong member of the Rotterdam BPOE Lodge 2157. Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Theresa "Terry" Glenn; a son, Marc (Mary) and a granddaughter, Madison; all of Rotterdam: his brother, Michael (Caroline) Glenn of Schenectady; sister- in-law, Marilyn Glenn of Palm Harbor, FL; cousin, Lucille Kimball of Scotia and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his many lifelong friends, including: Mike Devlin, John Kwiatkowski, Paul Sangalli, Colin Smith, Marv Cermak, David Paine, Ed Barkowskiand Norm Seymour. George was preceded in death by his older brothers, Gerald F. Glenn of Schenectady and Eugene P. Glenn of Palm Harbor, FL. The family wishes to thank the Rotterdam EMT Service for the prompt and professional aid they provided George throughout his disability and the nurses and staff of Ellis Hospital who cared for George with personal kindness and care on the several occasions where their paths crossed. Calling hours will be held Wednesday February 19 from 6 to 8pm at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, 10am at the Church of St. Madeleine Sophie, 3500 Carman Rd., Guilderland, followed by interment in Memory Gardens, Colonie. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a contribution in George's name to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia NY 12302.
