George Thomas Fredericks

July 21, 1949 — May 30, 2022

Schenectady - George Thomas Fredericks was born on July 21st, 1949, to Mary Elizabeth (Kilcullen) and John William Fredericks. For most of his childhood, George grew up in Watervliet before moving to Rotterdam at the age 14. Here he attended Mohonasen High School before joining the Military. Instead of waiting to be drafted, George enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 26, 1970 and was soon sent to Southeast Asia where he resided for the next 17 months working Signal Intelligence for the Army Security Agency in Thailand and Vietnam. After George returned from the Vietnam War, he went to work for the New York State – Department of Labor, leading to a career which spanned over three decades. Even after all his time with the NYS-DOL and George’s eligibility for retirement, he soon joined Union College where he worked for another 14 years. During the early part of his career, he met Shawn, and they raised their family of four children in Schenectady. George’s true passion has always been photography. From a young age he was fascinated by what was possible with a camera. This passion turned into the ultimate hobby, giving George decades of enjoyment, capturing all types of media. George was loved by all who encountered him. He was very generous with his time and enjoyed talking with anyone he met. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to George, a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and veteran. George is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Shawn (Kukan) Fredericks, his sons Slone (Alisha), Noel (Susan) and Joshua, and his daughter Jennifer (Rafael). George also had six grandchildren, Emily, Ava, Kevin, Josh, Madelyn, and Jordan. George is also survived by his brother John (Marcy) Fredericks, sister Mary (Harry) Livingston, sister Noreen (Joe) Romano, brother Paul (Marylin) Fredericks, and brother Michael (Jo) Fredericks. Calling hours will be held at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam on Thursday from 4-5pm for immediate family and from 5-7pm for all guests who would like to pay their respects.
