Rotterdam - Mr. George F. “Choach” DeCarlo, 85, of East Lucille Ave., passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, October 16, 2022 at Capstone Rehabilitation Nursing Home, Amsterdam, following a long illness. Born in Schenectady NY, he attended Mont Pleasant High School. He was the proprietor of The Finish Line Bar on Broadway in Schenectady, where he discovered his love of horse racing. He finished his career as a driver for William Larned and Sons, Inc, Rotterdam. Mr. DeCarlo was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Rotterdam. He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Irene DeCarlo and his brothers, Dominick DeCarlo and Richard DeCarlo. He was married for 65 years to the love of his life, Sandra (Lane) DeCarlo of Rotterdam. He is survived by his two sons, Dennis (Dori) DeCarlo of Rotterdam, David DeCarlo of Greenfield Center and daughter, Coleen DeCarlo of West Glenville. He was the loving grandfather and “papa” to seven grandchildren, Melissa (Bob) Torres, Dawn (Steve) Kowalczyk, William (Shannon) Gallagher, Leanne (Jon) Donlon, Denny DeCarlo, Kristina (Kyle) Longo, Haley (Mike) Oullette and he also leaves five great grandchildren. Additional survivors include his brothers, Robert, Joseph, John (Rae) DeCarlo and his sisters, Mildred Klein and MaryAnn (Ralph) Pisano along with several nieces and nephews. The family has requested calling hours be private. Funeral services will commence at 10 am on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 210 Princetown Road, Rotterdam, with the Very Rev. James Belogi, pastor, celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Procession will follow to Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, where interment will take place.
